Who can use Citation Linker at Penn State?

Penn State faculty, staff and students can use Citation Linker and Get It! It is available on and off campus.

How do I use Citation Linker?

Enter as much information as you can about the item, such as journal title, date, volume, issue, start page, article title, ISSN and author. If not enough information is provided about the citation, Citation Linker will not understand your request and may falsely claim that the Libraries does not have full text, or, link to the home page of the journal instead of to the article.

For articles or journals, Citation Linker requires at least the complete journal title or an ISSN. If you are not sure you are using the complete journal title, try variations of the title, such as replacing 'and' with '&'.

For books, Citation Linker requires at least the complete book title or ISBN.

Once you have entered the details, click on the Get It! button to search for the citation. The Get It! menu with various service options will appear.

What Service Options Will I Get?

Several options will be presented

Why didn't I get a full text link for my article?

It is possible that there is no electronic full text version available for that journal through the Penn State Libraries, or that you did not provide enough information for Citation Linker to determine if Penn State has it or not.

Sometimes I do not get to the article directly, why?

Some full-text providers can only link to the journal or issue rather than the individual article. This means you may need to do further searching within the journal to find your article.

I know we have this journal, why didn't it get offered?

For Citation Linker to work correctly all of the bibliographic information you have entered has to match exactly with what is in the Get It! Linking System and the database provider. You could try editing your query to only include the journal title or ISSN.
